Here is a great retro for Halloween time.
Set the Stage - Poke the Pumpkin
I got this idea from a kids party. You will need orange solo cups, orange tissue paper and rubber bands. You will also need Tricks and Treats to put in the cups. Some of the Tricks I used were office supplies like paper clips, glue, tape, etc. For Treats, I have used candy as well as scratch off lottery tickets. I also put Trick or Treat Would You Rather questions into the cups (see below). I used 12 solo cups so I had 6 cups that were Treats and 6 cups that were Tricks. Put the appropriate type of Would You Rather Question in the cup along with the appropriate Trick or Treat item. Then cover the cup with orange tissue and fasten it to the solo cup using a rubber band. Once all the cups are ready, organize them into a pumpkin shape. I also used a piece of green tissue paper to make the stem. Have each team member "Poke the Pumpkin" to see if they get a trick or treat and then make sure they read/answer the Would You Rather Question.
Would You Rather Questions:
Would you rather walk through a graveyard at midnight or spend the night in a spooky abandoned house?
Would you rather meet a vampire or meet a werewolf?
Would you rather have to sleep in a coffin or have to live in a giant pumpkin?
Would you rather have to eat 6 fish eyeballs or have to eat a small frog?
Would you rather be chased by 5 zombies or be chased by one werewolf?
Would you rather read a spooky story or go see a spooky movie?
Would you rather help design and make a haunted house or go to a haunted house someone else created?
Would you rather eat all of your Halloween candy or trade your Halloween candy for $10?
Would you rather go trick-or-treating with a group of friends or get paid $20 to take a little kid trick-or-treating?
Would you rather have to wear a Halloween costume to work every day for 2 months or have to wear a jack-o-lantern over your head for 4 days?
Would you rather go to a really great Halloween party where you didn’t know anyone or go to a lame Halloween party where you know everyone?
Would you rather have an amazing costume that is really uncomfortable or a lame costume that is really comfortable?
Data Gathering Activity - Tricks or Treats
For the Data Gathering Activity, have the team discuss the Tricks and Treats in the sprint. Tricks can by anything that was negative. Treats are things that were positive. Write "Tricks" and "Treats" on the whiteboard and have everyone contribute appropriately.
For the closer, I had the team share their favorite Halloween costume they have ever done. Another idea is to get the miniature pumpkins from the produce department at the grocery store and have the team draw a jack o'lantern face on one side with a word describing what they want to improve on in the next sprint on the other side of the pumpkin. Then, they can set the mini pumpkin on their desk for decoration and inspiration for next sprint.
